Understanding Little League Baseball Regulation VI (Pitching Rules)

Youth arm safety is the top priority in Little League and USA Baseball Pitch Smart guidelines. The rules specify strict daily maximum pitch counts based on league age (determined as of August 31 of the current season), as well as mandatory calendar days of rest before a player can pitch in another game.

What is a "Calendar Day of Rest"?

A calendar day of rest means a complete day from midnight to midnight. For example, if a pitcher throws 45 pitches on Saturday (requiring 2 calendar days of rest):

The Regulation VI (k) Threshold Exception

If a pitcher starts facing a batter with 19 pitches, and delivers 4 pitches during that at-bat (finishing with 23 pitches), the coach can use the 20-pitch threshold for rest calculation if the pitcher is removed before facing the next batter. This prevents coaches from having to pull pitchers in the middle of a count.
